Ruger’s description of the 10/22

In every detail of this design, the experienced shooter will see originality combined with sound engineering, its smooth handsome finishes, racy lines, perfect balance, and supurb accuracy.

Bill Ruger: “We used a die-cast, aircraft-quality aluminum alloy receiver, which was quite unique. Of all of the 10/22’s we’ve made, I’ve never seen one receiver fracture. We combined the elements of a rotary magazine, aluminum receiver, a strong and reliable trigger mechanism... it was a very straight forward proposal once we knew what we wanted. It really has set a standard for .22 automatic rifles.”

The name 10/22 came from its detachable rotary box magazine capacity of 10 rounds chambered for .22 Long Rifle caliber.
