What Gen is your GLOCK?
Gen1: 1982 ~ 1989. Frame has a smooth finish.
Gen2: 1989 ~ 1998. Frame has a pebble finish on the side panels and a checkered front and backstrap areas.
Gen3: 1998 ~ current production. Frame has checkered finger grooves and an equipment rail. There are a few models that are offered with an ambidextrous magazine catch, rough textured frame finish, and unique “fish gills” slide serrations. Gen4: 2010 ~ current production. Frame has aggressive checkering on side panels and finger grooves, equipment rail, and three interchangeable backstraps.
Gen 4s also have reversible and enlarged magazine catch for left or right handed shooters, and dual recoil spring assembly on all models. Gen4: Slimline. G36 (.45 ACP), G42 (.380 Auto) and G43 (9mm) have unique frames. Parts and magazines and will not interchange with any other models. G34, G35, and G41 are available in MOS (Modular Optic System).
Gen5: Includes over 20 design modifications from their Gen4 predecessors, including the GLOCK Marksman Barrel, new nDLC finish, ambidextrous slide stop levers, grip with no finger grooves, and flared mag-well. MOS FS models have Front Serrations for easier and quicker manipulations. Current Models available in Gen5 are: G17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 34, 43X, and 44. G45 and G48 share most G5 parts.
